July 18 @ 10:30 am - 1:00 pm

Free

This event is for police staff who are equivalent to the rank of chief inspector or above. Eligibility is also extended to police staff who are equivalent to inspector level where they are from an ethnic minority background.  Please feel free to share this invitation with your police staff colleagues who meet these eligibility criteria.

Overview

Three successful senior staff talk about their career journey, the opportunities taken to get where they are today, and things you may want to consider as part of your own career pathway:

Hannah Hart, NPCC

Hannah has spent a significant part of her 20 years in policing on secondment.  Initially working in a nationally-funded strategic partnership role for the Devon and Cornwall Criminal Justice Board before a brief spell in business change, then returning to criminal justice.  In 2020, she took the opportunity to secure a secondment at the National Police Chiefs’ Council as lead for strategy, planning and performance.  Hannah’s career has not followed a traditional police staff career path within a force, she will be able to talk about the value and challenges of working on secondments and the positive impact these have had on her progression in policing.

Katherine Riley, Portfolio Director at HMICFRS

Katherine’s civil service career started in youth justice 15 years ago, and has stayed focused on policing and justice ever since (with a brief intermission working in the Ministry of Defence). As portfolio director for criminal justice joint inspection, protecting vulnerable people inspections, and super-complaints in HMICFRS, she has multiple examples of how police staff skills have been exploited in the past in the inspectorate – and are much in demand now as well. At the moment, her portfolio includes inspections of the police response to child protection issues, violence against women and girls, and case file quality.

Tracy Holyer, Head of Organisational Development and Change at the National Police Chiefs’ Council

Tracy has worked in law enforcement in local, national and international organisations for her whole 35-year career. Having experienced working in the Civil Service, the United Nations, a local force, the College of Policing, and now National Police Chief’s Council, her career has taken a convoluted pathway – and not always in the upwards direction! Currently working in the NPCC as the Head of Organisation Development and Change, she leads on developing and embedding a sustainable way of working for the organisation, having had a steep learning curve regarding finance, national partnership engagement and politics, and delivering change in a complex landscape. She will focus on thinking laterally, grabbing opportunities for continuous development, and turning those real challenging career situations into positive outcomes.
